Have we met?
If not, let me introduce myself. I’m Connie Malamed, the publisher of The eLearning Coach website and podcast. I’m also the founder of a learning community, a visibility coach for learning professionals, learning design consultant, author and international speaker.
My graduate degree is in Instructional Design & Technology and as an undergrad I studied art education. I find fulfillment in serving learning professionals and the larger community. You can read about this site, my programs, and books below.
What This Site is About
The eLearning Coach publishes research-informed articles and podcasts on instructional design, learning science, visual design, professional visibility, and career development for learning professionals. Since its launch in 2009, The eLearning Coach has published more than 370 articles and podcasts that explore evidence-based approaches to learning design, visual communication, and professional growth in the learning field.
Who Is This Site For?
This site is for instructional designers, learning and development professionals, educators, and others who work in adult learning and development. Most of the content focuses on creating effective learning experiences, with an emphasis on practical strategies grounded in research and real-world experience.
What Topics Does The eLearning Coach Cover?
You’ll find articles and podcasts on topics such as:
- Instructional design and learning science
- Cognitive psychology and how people learn
- Visual, writing, and multimedia design for learning
- Learning technologies and tools
- Professional visibility and career growth for learning professionals
The goal is to help you design successful learning experiences and think more clearly about your work.
Why Write About Visibility and Career Growth?
Over time, I saw that many experienced learning professionals were doing excellent work but their thinking and contributions weren’t always visible or recognized. The visibility and career-related articles on the site explore how to:
- Share your expertise without feeling self-promotional
- Communicate your ideas clearly to peers, leaders, and decision-makers
- Build professional credibility and influence over time for better opportunities
- Fulfill your professional goals, whether that includes speaking, writing a book, starting a business, or taking the next step in your career
Helping learning professionals become more visible is another way I can serve the Learning and Development Community.
About Me
I’ve worked in instructional design and learning technology for many years as a consultant, author, speaker, and educator. I hold a graduate degree in Instructional Design and Technology, and my background also includes art education and visual communication, which strongly influence how I think about learning design. Let’s connect on LinkedIn where I post helpful and actionable content.
In addition to The eLearning Coach, I create and lead several learning communities and programs for instructional designers and learning professionals:
- Mastering Instructional Design is a membership community for instructional designers who want to deepen their skills, stay current, and learn from peers and experts.
- Visibility Coaching for Learning Professionals is a small-group coaching program that focuses on helping experienced learning professionals increase their professional visibility and influence in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.
- Breaking into Instructional Design is a free email-based course that supports people who want to learn more about an instructional design career.
- Elevate Your Profile and Visibility is a free email-based course to support learning professionals who want to stand out in a crowded field.
Across all of these projects, my work centers on helping people design better learning experiences and build meaningful, sustainable careers in the learning field.
Also, I wrote two books…
Please check out my books if you’d like to improve your visual design skills for instructional materials. The most current title is Visual Design Solutions. This was written to bring greater awareness of visual design and to improve the design skills of learning professionals. My other book, Visual Language for Designers, explains how to design for the human mind—something that’s very important in eLearning. Plus it includes over 250 graphics contributed by designers, illustrators, infographic artists and other creative people from around the world.
and started a podcast in 2013.
